our company
Northland AFC is an adult foster care provider licensed in St. Louis and Carlton counties. We also have the 245-B license which enables us to provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities. We currently operate 13 homes, of which 11 are traditional four consumer homes. We have two programs that were converted from a duplex where we can offer services to individuals who have higher needs or simply need a different type of setting.  We have had great success providing services to individuals with behavioral issues and are able to meet the needs of even the most difficult to place individuals. All of our behavior support plans and ISP support plans include positive reinforcement and teaching of alternative more pro social behaviors.

We have found it is most effective to have patience, be understanding of the consumer’s thoughts and feelings, and to take a proactive non-confrontational approach. We utilize individualized teaching and behavior identifying techniques to help consumers manage their behaviors. We provide 24 hour supervision with a staff ratio of no less than 2:4. We also provide awake overnight staff in all of our homes.

We offer programming to individuals with a vast array of disabilities. Our consumer base consists of mild to severe mental retardation, autism, and fetal alcohol, anywhere with in the spectrum.  Individual programs are developed however there are very specific expectations for the homes to ensure every one is safe.  Part of our success comes from the consistency of our staff and daily routines so consumers know what to expect. Northland AFC provides programming to enhance independent living skills, pro social skill development, physical and leisure recreation.  We offer nursing services and have two QMRP’s on staff to write behavior support plans and rule 40’s if the need presents itself. They oversee the training and implementation of every program. Our staff is trained in de-escalation techniques to include CPI and TI.
